It was announced at the 2016 GI Joe convention that JoeCon and the GI Joe Collectors Club will continue until 2018. The news was greeted with a cheer so loud that it could be heard from the panel room and in the dealer room. I’m happy for them, I truly am. But I also feel cheated.
This year was the last year for BotCon. Hasbro told us that as Transformers fans, they would not be abandoning us. Yet I feel abandoned. I feel betrayed. The Joe fans have an answer but as of right now, I and other Transfans don’t.
I can’t help but feel abandoned.
Sure, we’ve heard the rumors about HasCon and HasbroCon but that’s been it. We have no idea whether or not they will be the successor to BotCon or if they will be blended with other Hasbro properties. We know nothing other than the two names. Granted, it’s only been about two months since BotCon–even though that feels like lifetimes ago–but the silence is deafening. It is also worrisome.
Granted, we might get an answer in a matter of weeks, or maybe the end of the year. But as of right now, I’m left hanging. The Joe collectors know that they have something to look forward to for the next couple of years. They have some small patch of sunshine right now.
Me, I have grey skies and rain with little else.
Nothing against the Joes fans, but why that franchise given preferential treatment over BotCon, more so since FunPub ran both?

Some are thinking that if HasCon tanks, they’ll go back to FunPub. Hasbro’s hedging the bet a little on this.
Me, I don’t know what to believe.
