On Sunday night, we lost Gene Wilder. For once, I lack the words to express how I feel. I grew up on Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory; the movie was a staple of my childhood. So rather than muddle through thoughts, memories and feelings, I’ll simply post this, as it seems fitting.
I'm a Transformers fan, Pokémon player, Brewers fan and all-out general nerd. I rescue abandoned Golett, collect as many Bumblebee decoys and figures as I can find and I've attended every BotCon--official and non--since 1999. I'm also happily married to a fellow Transfan named Prime and we were both owned by a very intelligent half-Siamese cat, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge on June 16, 2018. We still miss him. But we're now the acting staff of a Maine Coon kitty named Lulu, who pretty much rules the house. Not that we're complaining about that.
I had seen many Gene Wilder movies like The Producers (1968) and Young Frankenstein but never Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Coincidentally, Joe had bought a DVD of that he showed me for the 1st time several weeks before Gene’s passing. I am so glad to see Gene’s version was far better than the 2005 remake of that movie. May he rest in peace.
