Out of the Darkness and Into the Light

This popped up in Prime’s Facebook feed last night. I’ve just now shared it but I’ll also warn you: the original Facebook post that started the controversy is gone. It’s either had the privacy settings changed or it’s been deleted. However, the internet never forgets, especially when it deals with something this massively stupid.

What am I talking about? Just an Alabama theater dropping the live action Beauty and the Beast film due to the inclusion of a gay character, is all. It seems that Henagar Drive-In theater won’t show the film because of that “objectionable” content.

“When companies continually force their views on us we need to take a stand,” read the post. “If we can not take our 11-year-old granddaughter and 8-year-old grandson to see a movie we have no business watching it. If I can’t sit through a movie with God or Jesus sitting by me then we have no business showing it. I know there will be some that do not agree with this decision. That’s fine … We will continue to show family oriented films so you can feel free to come watch wholesome movies without worrying about sex, nudity, homosexuality and foul language.”

Sorry but all I’m hearing is this right now:
think-of-the-children1

Better not show The Passion of the Christ then. Holy scrapmetal, that is torture porn on an epic scale. But I digress.

I’m going to be absolutely honest here: I’m glad that these people are doing this. I am glad that their Facebook post caught national attention. I’m glad that they feel the need to take a stand on this.

Because when this sort of thing comes to light, they can no longer hide. They can’t walk their bigotry back. They can’t say that this was “taken out of context”. They can’t say that this doesn’t represent them or who they really are.

In other words, they can’t deny their bigotry anymore. They have to live with the consequences of it.

This is why I love free speech. Give these guys enough oxygen and they themselves will cause their own downfall then wonder just what the hell happened.

About Silverwynde

I'm a Transformers fan, Pokémon player, Brewers fan and all-out general nerd. I rescue abandoned Golett, collect as many Bumblebee decoys and figures as I can find and I've attended every BotCon--official and non--since 1999. I'm also happily married to a fellow Transfan named Prime and we were both owned by a very intelligent half-Siamese cat, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge on June 16, 2018. We still miss him. But we're now the acting staff of a Maine Coon kitty named Lulu, who pretty much rules the house. Not that we're complaining about that.
