Here Is an Expensive Thing

Several years ago. Hasbro released a couple of Transformers Monopoly sets. Prime and I have them both. I even have a story about how I managed to bankrupt Prime the first time we played the first Transformers edition. (Sorry, Prime. But you did pick Megatron for your token. You knew good and darned well that Bumblebee was going to win that battle!) Well, since it’s been about a decade since the first Transformers themed Monopoly game was released, Hasbro has decided to license another one. Only this one will set you back about six hundred dollars.

I’m not even kidding.

On the plus side, this features hinged aluminum panels that allow you to hang it on your wall. Once you take in the artwork, you can see as to why; this thing is absolutely gorgeous. It’s so lovely that you almost don’t want to use it as a gaming board. Everything about this edition is just amazing, from the six tokens–you can pick Unicron, if you so desire–to the fact that you don’t get to purchase the Boardwalk or Park Place but Optimus Prime and Bumblebee instead. Rather than using hotels and houses, you have energon cubes. Even the currency for this game is utterly breathtaking. I’m not much of a Monopoly collector but even I’d be more than willing to drop the coin on this. Even if I never actually played with it, it would still look amazing up on my wall.

About Silverwynde

I'm a Transformers fan, Pokémon player, Brewers fan and all-out general nerd. I rescue abandoned Golett, collect as many Bumblebee decoys and figures as I can find and I've attended every BotCon--official and non--since 1999. I'm also happily married to a fellow Transfan named Prime and we were both owned by a very intelligent half-Siamese cat, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge on June 16, 2018. We still miss him. But we're now the acting staff of a Maine Coon kitty named Lulu, who pretty much rules the house. Not that we're complaining about that.
