We’ve gotten some more info on the upcoming Bumblebee solo film and let’s just say that I’m totally hype!
-The film will be set in 1987.
-John Cena is now part of the cast.
-The release date has been pushed back to December, 2018. This will put it opposite the Justice League movie. I don’t know how I feel about that.
-Bumblebee isn’t a Camaro this time. He is a Volkswagen Beetle. Yeah, I’m just going to stop right there and let that sink in for a moment.
I’m a little worried about the change in the release date, as I fear stiff competition at the box office. However, the budget on this movie is only $70 million, which means it won’t have to make a lot to break even or be considered a success. On the plus side, extra time for this film can also mean a better damned story. Considering how much flack The Last Knight has gotten over its storyline, giving this film extra time might help alleviate that problem from reoccurring. Then there’s Bumblebee’s “new” alt mode.
First off, I’m stunned. I’m more than a little surprised that VW would give Paramount the okay to use one of their best known vehicles. VW has this thing about their cars being used in a war setting; that’s the reason why we didn’t get a classic Bumblebee in his signature Beetle form for so many years. I’m shocked that Volkswagen would agree to this. Maybe they want some of that sweet, sweet robot money, thus the change of heart.
However, this is going to make the G1 crowd very happy. Which might mean more ticket sales. That can only be a plus. But I’m forced to wonder what he’ll look like. Are we talking G1 alt mode but lanky Movie-style body? Because that might look a bit odd. Eh, I’ll get used to it.
December can’t come soon enough. I am so hype!
