“Into the great wide open, Under them skies of blue…”

As you all know by now, we’ve lost Tom Petty. His was one of those persistent voices that seemed to throb in the background of my adolescent years, always there, always. One of my friends, upon graduating high school, proceeded to blare “Don’t Come Around Here No More” from the stereo in my ex’s car as a tribute to the principal. Another friend of mine had a mix tape that he’d play on roadtrips; the very first song on it was “Running Down a Dream”. The voice of Tom Petty was everywhere, seemingly interwoven into my life as a teen.

Now that voice is gone. The world seems dimmer, lonelier now.

I don’t have the words to do proper justice to the memory of Tom Petty. I can only say that he will be missed. But to a degree, he will live on, in his music. That will not be taken from us.

About Silverwynde

I'm a Transformers fan, Pokémon player, Brewers fan and all-out general nerd. I rescue abandoned Golett, collect as many Bumblebee decoys and figures as I can find and I've attended every BotCon since 1999. I'm also happily married to a fellow Transfan named Prime and we were both owned by a very intelligent half-Siamese cat, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge on June 16, 2018. We still miss him. But we're now the acting staff of a Maine Coon kitty named Lulu, who pretty much rules the house. Not that we're complaining about that.
