I Just Work Here

(Before you ask: yes, I changed my banner. I quite like this one, for obvious reasons.)

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying: Some days it doesn’t pay to chew through the straps. Yeah, I’m having one of those kinds of weeks.

Tuesday was my first day back to work and it was interesting, to say the least. I clocked in at 12:30 and would be there until 21:00 (9 pm). My help wouldn’t be in until 18:15 (6:15) that night and everyone else would have been gone four hours prior. Which left me alone at the door for a good portion of my shift.

Thankfully, the front end sent me help, so I was able to get in my breaks and do the walks as needed. But that didn’t make it any less stressful. But it gets better.

Most of my upcoming schedules? They look exactly like today’s. I’m in during the afternoon and there until close, with my only help coming in two hours before we shut down.

I don’t get it. How difficult is it to make a decent schedule? I have no idea who’s in charge of scheduling now, but they rather suck at this. Our previous manager was much better; we didn’t have gaps in coverage and were rarely shorthanded. But now, it’s downright and damned common for this to happen. It’s crazy.

I’m going to grit my teeth and bear it, though. We’ll probably get a new manager sometime in the future. Then it’ll be a brand new merry go round of crazy. I can hardly wait.

About Silverwynde

I'm a Transformers fan, Pokémon player, Brewers fan and all-out general nerd. I rescue abandoned Golett, collect as many Bumblebee decoys and figures as I can find and I've attended every BotCon--official and non--since 1999. I'm also happily married to a fellow Transfan named Prime and we were both owned by a very intelligent half-Siamese cat, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge on June 16, 2018. We still miss him. But we're now the acting staff of a Maine Coon kitty named Lulu, who pretty much rules the house. Not that we're complaining about that.
