I can’t do this hard enough.
Alright, last night I shared a post on my Facebook feed that dealt with Alex Jones and the fact that he’s walking back his insistence that the Sandy Hook massacre was actually a “false flag operation”. The story itself came directly from Raw Story, which is a pretty well-known and reputable site. I shared the story, powered down my tablet and went to bed.
I didn’t think much of it. At least, not until today.
Today, I got home from work, hopped on Alexa-1 and loaded up Facebook. I had a notification. Apparently, that post had been removed, as it was seen as spam.
Yes, you are reading that correctly. A legitimate news story, which I had shared, was removed because it was “spam”.
Now, I was able to get it reposted, but the fact that I had to point out that no, this was not spam is more than a little troubling. Remember, Facebook had a huge Russian bot/Cambridge Analytica problem, not to mention the whole fake news fiasco. Something like this doesn’t make Facebook look all that competent.
The only thing that is keeping me from outright deleting the app from my tablet is the fact that I use Messenger to communicate with Prime. But using the app after I get home from work? Having a tab open specifically for Facebook? Making posts on my timeline at least once a day? Not happening. I’ve already been dialing it back quite a bit, but now, I’ll be dialing it down even further. This was part of my grander plan; slowly wean myself off of social media so when the time comes, it won’t be such a shock when I delete my account. Why would I delete my Facebook page? Well, I’m figuring that in due time, something else will come along, making Facebook obsolete. I’m preparing myself for that day, if you will.
As for right now, I think I’ll stick with updating my blog. At least WordPress isn’t going to take down my posts, trying to claim that they’re “spam”.
