The Alpha, the Omega and the Infinity Gauntlet

This may be coming sooner than we’d like.

Earlier today, Prime and I met up with our friend, Shawn and basically just shot the shit in the parking lot of my local Wal-Mart. We chatted about the current toys that are on the shelves now, a bit about JoeCon–it ends this year–a little bit about DairyCon and the like. We had to confess to Shawn that no, we wouldn’t be attending PRiCk, Prime’s nickname for Pete’s Robo Con, this year due to unforeseen circumstances. It sucks, but what can you do? The conversation eventually turned to BotCon and the idea was thrown out about it returning, but as an unofficial convention.

I had to admit: if BotCon made a comeback, even as an unlicensed con, I’d be raring to go.

Sure, having cool convention exclusives is awesome. The toys are a nice draw. But the older I’ve gotten, the less I care about the toys. Those aren’t the things that stand out in my mind or make memories. It’s the experience, the event in and of itself that makes memories. It’s being around the people, hanging out in the autograph line, having impromptu debates in the dealer room that make the convention special. It’s seeing old friends and making new ones. It’s one-liners and jokes that become catchphrases. It’s conversations that last until three in the morning. It’s laughter and rejoinders during a parts swap. It’s posts about the weird mystery vegetable on the plate during a dinner. It’s sharing a glass of wine with friends. I could go on, but I think you get my point.

The toys really aren’t that important. Just say that if BotCon comes back, I’ll be there.

The talk eventually turned to Infinity War, how we might be losing two of the Avengers and that sort of thing. I mentioned that it could happen, then someone hits the reset button and it doesn’t stick. You know, an in-universe reboot.

Shawn said that next year seems to be a reboot in and of itself. Most of Hasbro’s animated shows will restart. The current IDW comics universe will come to a conclusion at the end of this year and will probably restart anew next year. As I mentioned earlier, Transformers 7 is off the schedule, so that means that the stand-alone Bumblebee film will be the last movie in that particular universe. (Which is a pity, as we had just gotten to Unicron.) Everything seems to be going through a restart, except on the convention end.

It’s too bad that BotCon can’t be among them. That would be one phoenix rising from the ashes that would make me extremely happy. But knowing my luck, it’ll never happen.

About Silverwynde

I'm a Transformers fan, Pokémon player, Brewers fan and all-out general nerd. I rescue abandoned Golett, collect as many Bumblebee decoys and figures as I can find and I've attended every BotCon since 1999. I'm also happily married to a fellow Transfan named Prime and we were both owned by a very intelligent half-Siamese cat, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge on June 16, 2018. We miss him every day.

I am sorry I have not responded in a while, Silverwynde. I hope you and Prime have both been okay, all things considering. By now you know that I won’t be at that Pete’s RoboCon in June. I wish BotCon would come back.

I hope to see you guys in October but because of a health issue, I am not sure I will be there either. I will have to see when I can see you 2 again. I will keep you informed.

    Much love,

We’ve been okay so far. This month and the next will get expensive. Which is why we had to cancel.

October is probably going to happen; it may just be a day trip for us, but it’s going to happen. I had wanted to hit PRC and JoeCon but it looks like it’s not going to work.

And take care of yourself, please. I know they say age is a number, but the body doesn’t handle those numbers well. =/
