About Time

Yeah, I know; that’s not a mature response to anything. But in this case, it fits perfectly.

Several days ago, I ran into an old co-worker of mine. She worked at the same Wal-Mart where I was first hired but left long before I got my transfer. I hadn’t seen her in a while so we talked for a bit. What she told me made me smile.

It seems that the manager of the East side Wal-Mart got walked out of the building. In other words, he was duly fired. He had been at that store for around fifteen years; he took over when the original store manager was dismissed for fraternization. Now, our first manager was a complete and total shitbag–he fired my mother-in-law for a bullshit reason–but the second one? He was worse.

When manager number two, or Martin, was in charge of the store, we associates never got bonuses. Now, Martin would say that we’d have to hit a certain sales goal before we’d get one, but we always hit the mark. Yet no matter how many times we did, we’d get nothing. Needless to say, I wondered just how accurate our bookkeeping was and couldn’t help thinking that Martin was lying.

He also treated us like garbage and told a customer that she was “crazy” because she thought the store was too hot. Yeah, a real great guy, that one. When I transferred, I knew that I wasn’t going to miss him at all and was glad to be out of that hellhole.

Only now, I wish I was there.

The idea of him walking out the door fills me with glee. I just wish I could have seen it. He made our lives hell while he worked there, so seeing him take the fall would have been lovely. It would have been just one more self-important asshole getting what he richly deserved.

It’s just too bad that it didn’t happen years ago.

About Silverwynde

I'm a Transformers fan, Pokémon player, Brewers fan and all-out general nerd. I rescue abandoned Golett, collect as many Bumblebee decoys and figures as I can find and I've attended every BotCon--official and non--since 1999. I'm also happily married to a fellow Transfan named Prime and we were both owned by a very intelligent half-Siamese cat, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge on June 16, 2018. We still miss him. But we're now the acting staff of a Maine Coon kitty named Lulu, who pretty much rules the house. Not that we're complaining about that.
