Truth in Advertising

“We like hurting people.”

It was a sign outside a church. One that, the parishioners thought would be warm and welcoming but one that stated a cold, hard, bitter truth.

“We like hurting people.”

Most people would think that this meant the church was willing to help the “broken”. They would assist the sinner. They would give comfort to the grieving. In other words, this would be reaching out to those in need.

But my interpretation was different, very different.

“We like hurting people.”

Yes, you do: you like taking rights away from gay men and women. You like telling them that they aren’t natural, that they aren’t supposed to feel attraction to the same sex. You like denying them marriage.

You like telling transgender people that they are an abomination. You like telling them that they are mentally ill. You like calling them by their deadnames and misgendering them. You like to claim that they are child abusers, yet you like to cover for and hide the abusive priests in your own flocks.

“We like hurting people.”

You like telling women that they are murderers for having an abortion, but deny them birth control, since all children–even the ones born with severe defects–are a “gift from God”. You like telling women that they are responsible for their abuse at the hands of their husbands. If they’d act like good, christian women, like good, submissive and subservient wives, then their husbands would never dream of hitting them.

“We like hurting people.”

You like telling parents that they must break their children’s will in order to make them “obedient”. You tell these same children that they are sinners, that they are broken, that they don’t deserve love because of a story in an ancient myth. You like telling gay and transgender children that they aren’t “normal”, that they need to change. You like telling children that the Earth is only 6,000 years old, that the Earth is flat, that only god’s chosen people will ascend to heaven in the rapture and that they could be left behind.

“We like hurting people.”

You do like hurting people. But not for the reasons you like to believe. But what you didn’t realize when you put that sign up was just how truthful it was and just how much you and your religion like hurting people. It took me years to realize that fact; you probably never will.

Everything in Christianity is exactly opposite of what they say. This was an oops, bug not so much. They’ve had a thousand years of control and won’t be satisfied till the earth is ripe with destruction.
