(Title is from “End of the Summer” by Theory of a Deadman)
Last night was the last Timber Rattlers game of my season. The guys will finish out the home stand tonight, but will end things on the road in Kane County. I’m more than a little sad about this. Baseball season is nearly over. We have mere days left in the Minors. Talk of Wildcard races and who might win their pennants dominate the Bigs. It’s almost over.
This the current view that I have. I’m in the Fox Club, for the last time this year. Currently, the game is tied at one apiece. The Rattlers are facing the Snappers tonight, which meant that I could bring my pennant for a few more autographs.
I got some more signatures on there, as you can see.
We’ll be having some live music here in a few minutes and I’ll be having dessert. And the Rattlers managed to pull ahead 2 to 1 with one out in the bottom of the sixth. However, it didn’t last; the Snappers pulled ahead in the top of the seventh, making it a three to two game. But the Timber Rattlers answered back, tying things up in the bottom of that same inning.
Unfortunately, the top of the eighth was not kind to the Rattlers and the Snappers took a commanding six to three lead. They added to it at the top of the ninth, making it seven to three. It would stay that way for the rest of the game.
Side note: no matter how many times I hear “Space Oddity” it makes me want to cry. I can’t explain why, though.
Last night was also a bobblehead giveaway. Prime and I got there in time to get us a pair. We got here early enough to see the teams warming up, which is how I got the autographs. Dinner was in the Club and consisted of a Whiffer Waffle–a chicken breast on two waffles with Sriracha sauce, bacon, pepperjack cheese and a hint of maple syrup–and seasoned fries. Dessert? Cinnamon nachos.
Random incident: during the Anthem, I did the usual and took a knee. I had a very nice lady tell me that she supported what I was doing. I still blush thinking about it.
It’s still a little hard to believe that the season is nearly done. It feels like yesterday that I was sitting in the cold, shivering during the season opener. Yet, here we are. And there’s always next year. And I’ll be here. I’ll make damn sure of it.
Final score: Beloit Snapper – 7, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers – 3
