One Thousand Plus

1000 anniversary monument
I’m more than a little stunned to be typing this, but I’ve made one thousand posts. One thousand. I’m trying to let that sink in a bit.

When I started blogging back in 2005, I never thought that I’d ever make it to a milestone of this magnitude. On my first blog, I really didn’t mark occasions such as this; I made a passing comment about post number fifty and if I recall correctly, that was about it. (I also made a smart-ass comment about this mattering to all two of my readers. It wasn’t all that off, to be quite honest.) I don’t remember marking number 75, 100, 250, or any others that may have been significant. I just didn’t keep up with that sort of thing. Blogger didn’t exactly make it easy to do so sometimes and I didn’t make the effort. I’m still not entirely sure as to why on either.

When I started blogging thirteen years ago, I didn’t think I’d be making the effort to share cat videos in order to keep things positive. I didn’t think I’d be sharing nostalgia on a weekly basis. I didn’t think I’d be picking apart Christian “literature” for gits and shiggles, if you will. I didn’t think that my blog would be the first place I would turn to when I needed support.

Given the choice between breaking important news on my blog or Facebook first, I will choose the blog. Every time. Twitter? That’s an after thought. But I digress.

What was my original intent, if not to post my thoughts, whether they be sublime or ridiculous? It was originally to vent about my job.

Thirteen years ago, I was stuck at Wal-Mart as a full time cashier. It doesn’t sound like a particularly stressful experience, but management made what should have been a tolerable situation into a living hell. If you’ve heard anything about Wal-Mart, it’s probably all been negative. There is very little positive news coming from that company nowadays, no matter what Bentonville might say. But again, I digress.

There have been so many changes in the thirteen years since I began. My original intent for blogging has changed radically. I’ve changed formats, which was one of the best things that ever happened to me. I’ve made it a point to try and have something new posted here on a daily basis. I’m much less inclined to make posts from Alexa-1, my laptop, and I’m more likely to post via an app on my Kindle Fire. I had to experiment with a few different themes before I finally found the perfect one but it was worth it. I’m still moderating my comments, which will probably never change. (Thanks ever so much, spammers and bots!) I’ve made friends and seen the true nature of other friends–whether for good or ill–and had to make the decision to either maintain that relationship or let them go. That was probably the hardest thing I’ve had to deal with over that decade plus, as the friendship in question started in high school. Things do change, people do change and sometimes either one isn’t for the better.

As I’ve said, I have no idea how long this journey may last. I’ll still be posting cat videos, nostalgia and whatever else pops into my brain. I’ll still be covering pop culture and nerdy things. If I get another furry family member, I’ll be making posts about them here. My platform may change–I’m hoping that will never happen again but one can’t be completely sure–but the spirit of Iacon East will remain the same. Here’s to my first thousand posts.

I can hardly wait for the next thousand. But in the meantime, let’s have a cat video on the house, shall we? Because nothing says “blog milestone”–or internet, for that matter–better than a cat video.

About Silverwynde

I'm a Transformers fan, Pokémon player, Brewers fan and all-out general nerd. I rescue abandoned Golett, collect as many Bumblebee decoys and figures as I can find and I've attended every BotCon--official and non--since 1999. I'm also happily married to a fellow Transfan named Prime and we were both owned by a very intelligent half-Siamese cat, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge on June 16, 2018. We still miss him. But we're now the acting staff of a Maine Coon kitty named Lulu, who pretty much rules the house. Not that we're complaining about that.
