When Nightmares Are Real (from the New York Times): “But now I live in a world in which the president of the United States urges violence against reporters, in which survivors of sexual assault are ridiculed, in which migrant children are placed in “baby jails,” in which transgender people are faced with erasure, in which Donald Trump lies and lies and lies. And in response to all of this, and so much more, a large portion of the country — is it 40 percent? — cheers and laughs and smiles.”
Pro-life friends supported our children’s adoptions. But they balk at policies keeping them alive. (from USA Today): “Our old friends say the adoption of our children was about life not politics, but somehow the policies to keep them alive are too political. I don’t understand. Everything about politics is about life.”
THE DISTURBING REASON INCELS ARE OBSESSED WITH TEENAGE LOVE (from Mel Magazine): “Young love can no doubt be a treasured milestone on the way to a fulfilling adult life, but that’s not exactly what the incels are claiming here. For starters, while some allude to emotional affection, this “teenage love” is more often defined by the physical — everything from a touch to kissing to sex. They also see early carnal knowledge as necessary to proper maturation, which means the lack of it functions as an excuse for their current bitterness, as well as a reason to give up any daydream of companionship in the future.”
Being a Mom Doesn’t Make You Special (from Body for Wife): “Being a mom doesn’t make you special. Being special makes you special. Just because you’ve decided to raise a child doesn’t automatically impart magical wisdom where you know what is best for your child. Many say, “I know what is best for my child” like a rallying cry, but if your kid has leukemia and you take them to some natural healer instead of a real doctor, and they die, then it’s pretty damn obvious that you didn’t know what was best. There are a helluva of a lot of people on this planet who have years of education and expertise in what is best for your child, and you should listen to them.”
White Supremacists Are Out of the Shadows and Running for Office. As Republicans. (from Mother Jones): “The Trump era has emboldened white supremacists and conspiracy theorists to emerge from the shadows—and some of them have been running for office[…]”
UNPROTECTED (from ProPublica): “The charity would raise over $8 million. Meyler would enter a rarefied world of globe-trotting problem-solvers. She would rub shoulders with Warren Buffett, Bill Gates and Oprah Winfrey, and even get invited to the Obama White House. MTM’s footprint in Liberia would multiply to 19 schools teaching 4,000 students.
Yet some of the girls present that September day had a secret. Far from being saved from sexual exploitation, they were being raped by the man standing beside Meyler on the stage.”
Incels Are a Hate Group Promoting Rape and Murder (from Body for Wife): “I mentioned understanding being sexually frustrated. This is a critical point: Sexual desire is not what defines incels. Incels are a hate group born out of having their sense of entitlement thwarted. These are almost exclusively young men who feel they are owed a beautiful woman to be their sex slave so they can achieve status in the male hierarchy as a conqueror of women’s bodies.”
