I feel attacked by this relatable content.
I had been planning to share this on a Weekly Reader, but I couldn’t. It’s too important for that. I found this via Google suggestions and Love Joy Feminism: She was called the n-word and given instructions to slit her wrists. What did Facebook do?
Spoiler: Facebook did nothing. But are we surprised? For example:
You can call someone the n-word and give her graphic instructions on how to kill herself, and you won’t get kicked off Facebook.
Or you can tell a mother you hope her son gets raped, and you won’t get kicked off the world’s most popular social media platform. Or you can tell a mother whose 5-year-old daughter has died that “if your kids keep dying it’s god trying to tell u u don’t deserve them.”
You can write to that mother: “F**k you c**t. Are you dead yet c**t? Fingers crossed. Spit on c**ts like you. You c**t dog. Die c**t. You piece of sh*t c**t dog. You are ignorant dumb dog. Die c**t.”
Still, you can stay on Facebook.
You can report harassers to Facebook and be told that they didn’t break Community Standards, but be banned when the harasser’s friends and family report you.
You can be doxxed on Facebook and the user doxxing you won’t be punished.
You can report threats of rape and murder, but be told that those posts didn’t break Community Standards. But when you post, “Men suck” or “White people suck”, you’re dealing with an automatic ban.
How do I know this? Because I have dealt with this sort of thing on Facebook. I’ve been in Facebook jail several times; somehow, I broke the nebulous “Community Standards” but the users harassing me? They didn’t. The users making shitty transphobic and homophobic jokes and comments? Nope, they didn’t break Community Standards. The anti-vaxxers threatening other users? Perfectly fine with Zark Fuckerberg. Fuckerberg doesn’t care. He never has and he never will. The only time he will start taking this seriously is when he starts losing money, but by then it’ll be too late.
As far as I’m concerned, it’ll be good riddance to bad rubbish. And it can’t happen soon enough.
Facebook in a goddamned nutshell. There aren’t enough curse words for me to adequately describe how much I loathe it.
