Weekly Reader: Vol 2 Issue 29

It’s time once again for news and views that you can peruse! It’s another edition of your Weekly Reader! As always, if you have something you’d like to share, drop a link in the comments! The more articles, the better! Because sharing is caring! And we ❤ reading on this little blog!

Apple’s ‘sexist’ credit card investigated by US regulator (from the BBC): “Later, Mr Wozniak, who founded Apple with Steve Jobs, tweeted that the same thing happened to him and his wife despite their having no separate bank accounts or separate assets.”

Professor Secretly Moonlights As White Nationalist Co-Host Of Richard Spencer’s Podcast (from The Gothamist): “But when he’s not teaching undergrads or hypnotizing passive men, Dietz is lecturing under another name: Josh Neal, avowed white nationalist and co-host of Richard Spencer’s podcast.”

It’s that time of year again — fall is here and packs of robot dogs are frolicking in the leaves (from The Verge): “Right now these bots are mostly being used for surveying jobs, where using robots is cheaper or safer than using humans (such as on remote oil rigs). In the future, though, they’ll likely find other tasks, including package delivery and security patrols.”

The 5 People Who Could Have Stopped Trump (from Politico): “The members of the Casino Control Commission, in a series of hearings in the Arcade Building on the corner of Tennessee Avenue and Boardwalk, had to determine whether Trump was sufficiently “financially stable” to merit renewals of his licenses to own and operate his three casinos in the perpetually ground-down regional gaming capital. The stakes hardly could have been higher.”

Migrant in ICE custody removed from life support over family’s objections (from USA Today): “Akongnwi, speaking from a hotel room in Cameroon on Monday, said he spoke by phone with ICE officials several times Sept. 30, when they first called to say his brother had become critically ill and was on a ventilator. He said the ICE officials passed the phone to Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center officials, who explained that his brother was bleeding profusely in his brain and a ventilator was the only thing keeping him breathing.”

That’s all for today and apologies for a short post; life has gotten hectic here. But drop by again for more news and thoughts that will make you think. Until then, happy reading!

About Silverwynde

I'm a Transformers fan, Pokémon player, Brewers fan and all-out general nerd. I rescue abandoned Golett, collect as many Bumblebee decoys and figures as I can find and I've attended every BotCon--official and non--since 1999. I'm also happily married to a fellow Transfan named Prime and we were both owned by a very intelligent half-Siamese cat, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge on June 16, 2018. We still miss him. But we're now the acting staff of a Maine Coon kitty named Lulu, who pretty much rules the house. Not that we're complaining about that.
