Congratulations, anti-vaxxers. You’ve finally gotten your “perfect world”.

Every day on Facebook and in your Pinterest groups and on Twitter you’ve said time and time again that you couldn’t wait for a world without vaccines, a perfect, wonderful and natural world, one free from “big pHarma” and science. Odd that, considering how you were posting these thoughts, you were using a human created device known as a computer or a cell phone and putting those thoughts out on an artificial network known as the internet. See, some technology and science is okay with you. But others? It’s just too artificial and frightening.

You said that your “perfect” children with their “perfect” gut flora and “perfect” immune systems that were never tainted by chemicals would thrive in such a world; your “genetically perfect” and “superior” children wouldn’t be sick a day. No, they’d be flourishing in this natural, healthy world, away from the horrors of vaccines, and chemtrails, and 5G, and whatever else you thought might be artificial and harmful.

Well, you got your wish: we have a virus that has no vaccine. Only now, things aren’t so rosy and bright. Ten to one, you’re scared, too. Because you know, deep down:

Breast milk won’t cure this.
Urine therapy won’t cure this.
Essential oils won’t cure this.
Elderberry syrup won’t cure this.
It’s just you, the virus, and your immune system.

That’s why schools are closed. That’s why restaurants are now take-out only. That’s why San Francisco is shut down for the next three weeks. Because if this spreads, like it has in China and Italy, our hospitals will buckle and collapse under the strain. That people you know and love will fall ill. That your own “perfect” children might be exposed and may end up on a ventilator.

All the lavender oil in the world wouldn’t be able to save your child. Every prayer you might utter will fall on non-existent ears. All you will be able to do is sit helplessly and watch.

It’s not a pretty thought. But it’s a damn good possibility. You know it, no matter how much you try to bury it, you know it.

Maybe, just maybe, some of you will truly wake up and realize how wrong you were. You’ll realize that people who claimed to be experts really weren’t, and they lied to you. You might start doing some actual research on vaccines, and realize that a lot of things have scary sounding scientific names, but that doesn’t mean they’re harmful. You might start telling others that yes, you opposed vaccines in the past but you’ve changed your mind, because you started challenging your own biases. You might actually be one of the first in line for a dose of a new coronavirus vaccine.

But in a lot of your cases, I doubt it. You’re too dedicated to the conspiracy theory of the week to realize that nature doesn’t care whether you live or die. You don’t care that the virus is natural. Because natural things aren’t harmful. It’s “big pHarma” and man-made things that are dangerous.

But it’s a nice thought, even though it will never happen.

About Silverwynde

I'm a Transformers fan, Pokémon player, Brewers fan and all-out general nerd. I rescue abandoned Golett, collect as many Bumblebee decoys and figures as I can find and I've attended every BotCon--official and non--since 1999. I'm also happily married to a fellow Transfan named Prime and we were both owned by a very intelligent half-Siamese cat, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge on June 16, 2018. We still miss him. But we're now the acting staff of a Maine Coon kitty named Lulu, who pretty much rules the house. Not that we're complaining about that.
