What an interesting day today was, to put it mildly. It started out with me being asked to start my shift early. It culminated in me learning a little more about what’s going on at the doors.
Apparently, the doors were short on people, so I was asked to clock in an hour early. I have no idea if there was a call in or if it was another scheduling SNAFU, but there was a Front End Assistant helping at the entrance door when I got in at 10:50. I could tell it was going to be one of those days.
Once I got in, I headed up and helped as best as I could. It seems that they were running behind on breaks and walks, so we took care of those. Then I happened to learn a little tidbit about one of my coworkers.
It seems that one of the new hires in the department has a tendency to socialize while on the clock. As Mary put it, she likes to chat with her “boyfriend” while she’s at the door. It’s gotten her in trouble, it seems but she keeps doing it. Yes, idle chatter can get you in trouble; I have to wonder how long before she gets written up for this. But it gets better.
According to our full-timer, ie the one who keeps getting others in trouble just because she can, there’s been a shitload of infighting at the doors. Some are claiming favoritism. Others are not happy about the schedule. And one of the newbies keeps filling out the paperwork incorrectly, so someone has to go back and and fix it.
It’s a mess. And it’s not getting any better. I have no idea if it’ll get better.
On top of that, we’re heading straight into Christmas, our busy season. Unless this stuff gets ironed out before then, it’s going to be an absolute disaster.
