By now, everybody knows: Gina Carano has been fired from The Mandalorian. I would be lying if I said I was actually surprised; this was a long time coming and I honestly thought it would happen sooner.
She’s been problematic for nearly a year. From her “pronouns” (beep/bop/boop) to her anti-vaxxer posts to her anti-masker stance, she’s been problematic. She joined Parler late last year. She’s been claiming that the election was stolen. Cast and crew were asking her to knock it off, and she never did.
What was the last straw? This:
Yes, she actually went there. I don’t know what she was thinking, if anything at all.
There are those who want to boycott Disney and cancel their subscription to Disney+. Oddly, these are the same people who complain loudly about cancel culture. I can’t tell if that’s ironic or not. But to be honest, I’m glad she’s gone. Her views were absolutely awful, to put it gently and I had promised myself not to watch The Mandalorian until I knew she was gone. She left that bad a taste in my mouth. Granted, I heard that the character was amazing and no, she’s not her character but I didn’t feel comfortable watching knowing that she was still employed by Disney. I had no desire to reward her behavior.
Now, I don’t have to worry about that. I just have to worry about when we finally get Disney+.
