Lessons From a Vacation

Stingrays are cool. Just saying.

A few things I learned while on vacation:

-It’s always a great idea to pack sunscreen. You never know when you might need it.

-All drivers in every state suck. Except for the ones in your home state. (Maybe.)

-Rainy weather is not necessarily bad weather on a vacation. It depends on what you’re doing.

-Indoor activities can be a lot of fun. Again, it depends on what you’re doing.

-Always pack extra clothes. You might need them.

-Always have your camera handy. You might get a great picture of something completely unexpected.

-Hotel wifi can sometimes suck. You may want to have a little extra data to spare for your phone. It can help.

-Don’t be shy about souvenirs. You might not come back to that particular place anytime soon; if you see something you really like–a way too cute pair of earrings, for example–grab them.

-Hotel blankets can sometimes be a little bit thin. Bring a blanket from home, if you can.

-Those little travel size bottles? Rinse them out, let them dry, and refill and reuse them. Especially ones that are larger than 3 ounces. You can take bigger bottles on a road trip, while the smaller ones can be used for airline flights.

-Keep a dedicated toiletries bag. It makes things easier.

-Pack your suitcase ahead of time. It saves a lot of headaches.

-Don’t let minor irritations get to you. You’re trying to relax and have a good time. Getting worked up over stupidity or stupid things isn’t worth it and a complete waste of time. Let the BS go and have fun.

-Forget about work. It will survive without you.

-Those empty prescription pill bottles? Pull the labels off of them, rinse them out, and keep them as a travel size bottle for medication. It’s cheaper than a pill sorter and smaller in most cases.

-Keep some plastic bags on hand; they make great trash bags, can hold wet/dirty laundry, and can hold messy items. They also don’t take up a lot of room in your suitcase.

-Carry extra charge cords, an AC adapter for said cords, a couple of battery packs, and at least one multi outlet adapter. You will need them.

-Keep your phone charged. You’re going to be using it a lot, especially if this is a road trip and you’re using Google maps.

-Be flexible. Your plans might have to change. Sometimes things are just out of your control. Relax and let it slide.

-Have fun. That’s why you’re here. If you wanted to be absolutely miserable, you’d be at work, right? So just have fun! 😉

About Silverwynde

I'm a Transformers fan, Pokémon player, Brewers fan and all-out general nerd. I rescue abandoned Golett, collect as many Bumblebee decoys and figures as I can find and I've attended every BotCon--official and non--since 1999. I'm also happily married to a fellow Transfan named Prime and we were both owned by a very intelligent half-Siamese cat, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge on June 16, 2018. We still miss him. But we're now the acting staff of a Maine Coon kitty named Lulu, who pretty much rules the house. Not that we're complaining about that.
