Last week, I took a look around the internet, looking for Transformers pajamas. I was hoping to find a pair of lounge pants at the very least, but came up empty-handed. Also on a whim, I looked around for Transformers tee shirts. I mean, yeah, I have a lot, but I can always use more. What I found surprised me.
The best selection was on 80s Tees. There were a lot of Transformers tees, and a number of Bumblebee. They even had Shattered Glass Autobot and Deception tees! I could drop some serious cash on that site and still not get everything I wanted.
Then I tried Stylin’ Online. I can only really sum it up with one word: yikes.
There are Transformers tees, but I couldn’t find a lot in my size. The earrings, necklace, and cufflinks were still available, which was nice, but most of the shirts were kid sized or limited to only one size in adults. Granted, it’s the holiday season, so maybe their selection is limited due to that, but it’s a little concerning for me. Stylin’ Online was my main haunt during BotCon; I never left there without at least one shirt and usually something Bumblebee. I even had some of the employees call me over to tell me they had new Bumblebee items! (Seriously, everybody knew that I had a crush on Bumblebee. Even Hasbro employees.) But now…
As I mentioned before, maybe I just caught them on a bad day. Maybe they got hit with holiday shoppers. Or maybe they’re dealing with supply chain issues. But to see only medium sizes on most items is a little disappointing.
I miss the days of seeing those huge displays of shirts and hoodies for sale in the BotCon dealer room. I miss being able to grab a few Bumblebee shirts for next year’s convention. I miss justifying dropping thirty dollars on a tee shirt because it happens to feature Bumblebee.
I miss the convention. Packing the suitcase, counting down the days, cleaning out the car, all of it.
Given the choice between Christmas and BotCon, I’d rather have BotCon. It’s far better than Christmas.
