Or elsewhere, for that matter.
Starting this post off with some cute because things have taken a turn for the suck: There will be no Opening Day this year. It looks like the first two series of the season are both cancelled, cutting the season from 162 to 156 games.
Manfred said he is canceling the first two series of the season that was set to begin March 31, dropping the schedule from 162 games to likely 156 at most. Manfred said MLB and the players union have not made plans for future negotiations. Players won’t be paid for missed games.
At 5:10 p.m., Manfred issued a statement that many fans had been dreading: Nothing to look forward to on opening day, normally a spring standard of renewal for fans throughout the nation and some in Canada too.
No Spring Training. No Opening Day. Prime and I had tickets for the Brewers Home Opener but we’re probably going to get a refund. I’m not happy that we’re getting our money back. I wanted to go to American Family Field to cheer for my Crew. Now that’s not going to happen. For all I know, this could damn well put Opening Day for the Timber Rattlers in jeopardy. We’re going to have to play it by ear. I’m not happy, to put it mildly.
This fight was years in the making, with players angered that payrolls decreased by 4% from 2015 through last year, that many teams jettisoned a portion of high-priced veteran journeymen in favor of lower-priced youth and that some teams gave up on competing in the short term to better position themselves for future years.
Before you ask: No, I’m not angry with the players. I’m on their side. Players in the Minors get fucking poverty wages and the rich ass owners are fine with that bullshit. I am not. Adding to this is the fact that most owners are asshole Trump supporters. Fuck those guys. Pay your people. Pay a living wage or STFU forever. Stop demonizing people who just want to make a living. The owners have enough money; they can spare some for the people who actually do the damn work.
You were supposed to be better, 2022. You’re really disappointing me right now.
Any chance in hell I can get a refund for this year?
