The BotCon Report: Day Three

Panels: Live script reading, the man himself Mr. Frank Welker.

Dealer Room Purchases: a pair of cake toppers (Optimus Prime and Bumblebee), a pair of Autobot earrings, an Ariel print.

Autographs: Greg Berger, Simon Furman, Bob Budiansky, David Kaye, Jeanne Carr, Samantha Newark, and Michael McConohie.

Can You Believe It?!: As I was about to doze off, we get an announcement in our hotel room that the fire emergency has passed. We literally didn’t know there was one in the first place!

Today went much more smoothly than yesterday; I grabbed breakfast, grabbed a few things from Skids, then headed to the convention area. The dealer room was now in the back of my mind; I was going to finish up the autographs. Simon Furman was first, leading up to Michael McConohie as the last. This is probably my favorite portion of the convention. I love getting autographs. It’s freaking awesome!

I popped into the dealer room and did purchase a few things, among them being a pair of cake toppers that we didn’t have. The dealer was surprised that I grabbed them, as they had been passed over multiple times. Me? Those are the items I love to collect: the eccentric, the odd, the eclectic, the things other people overlook. Because those are just fun.

I also managed to squeeze in time for some lunch with DA. I don’t know what I needed more: the food or the conversation. Seriously, I needed that.

I caught two panels today: the script reading is on Facebook , so if you want to take in the awesomeness, feel free. You’ll probably enjoy it! The second panel was Frank Welker’s.

Dear Primus, that man…

First of all, he’s absolutely hilarious! Second, he damn near brought me to tears: he asked how many people were from Nashville. A few raised their hands. Then he asked which of us had traveled. A lot of us–me included–raised our hands. He said that we’re a community and that we often come together.

I don’t know exactly what it was about that statement, but I got a knot in my throat. That just hit me in a way I can’t quite describe.

After the panels, I thought I would chill for a bit but then I ended up meeting with my friends and checking out a small parts party in another room. I didn’t find anything that Prime might have needed so I and my friend Shawn took our leave.

Tomorrow is the final day. I’m not ready for this to end. But, to borrow a quote, it never really ends, does it?

About Silverwynde

I'm a Transformers fan, Pokémon player, Brewers fan and all-out general nerd. I rescue abandoned Golett, collect as many Bumblebee decoys and figures as I can find and I've attended every BotCon--official and non--since 1999. I'm also happily married to a fellow Transfan named Prime and we were both owned by a very intelligent half-Siamese cat, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge on June 16, 2018. We still miss him. But we're now the acting staff of a Maine Coon kitty named Lulu, who pretty much rules the house. Not that we're complaining about that.
